Redvelt (the company) developed Powerjamb (the product) for young people seeking admission to higher institutions. We are targeting those in three categories of the admission process: those more than a year from the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination; those just about to write, or who just wrote the UTME, and await a chance to take their institutions’ entrance tests; and those who already failed through a previous process. We will assess each individual with a carefully curated test, in subjects based on their expressed interest. From their performance, we will generate various scores from a machine learning algorithm. Our goal is to identify who needs coaching to improve their performance, and who needs counsel on what may be best for them. If then, we deduce that a candidate has a really low chance of getting admitted to, or excelling at a chosen course of study (at a specific institution), we will proceed to extract their motivation for that choice to determine their precise life goal. From there, we will – based on how far in the admission process they are – advise either a change of course, or a change of institution, or both. This idea came from the founder’s personal experience on the Post UTME admission team at Obafemi Awolowo University for the past three years. He observed aghast as talented teenagers consistently selected Medicine and Surgery (or other highly-demanded courses), and were the worse for it, not because they were absolute failures, but because they did not get the best counsel on the matter. Powerjamb poses a perfect opportunity to fix that anomaly. Our vision at Redvelt is to see young people take more control of early decisions, and consequently lead more fulfilled lives. We believe that youthful confusion, apathy, and avarice arise from critical decisions that are not fully thought through, or not taken with the counsel of mentors. Much later in life, the majority of these youths spend wistful days making up with social vices. We are convinced that young people will have powerful life stories once they can take informed charge of their choice of career.
